Core Strategy 2013

Core Strategy is the overarching planning policy document for the district. The policies in this plan form the basis for deciding planning applications and guiding public and private sector investment decisions

When was it adopted?

The Core Strategy Local Plan was adopted on 18 September 2013.

Setting out our long term vision

Our Core Strategy sets out our long term vision to 2031 for our environment, our economy and our communities.

Our environment

  • We want to manage and maintain our rich natural and built environment

Our economy

  • We want to improve employment, educational attainment and economic performance

Our communities

  • We want our residents to have a high quality of life and enjoy where they live. We want people to want to work here and visit.

How will we deliver this vision?

To deliver our vision the Core Strategy sets a target of:

  • 8,000 new homes;
  • 20 hectares of land for general business use; and,
  • 35,000 square metres. for retail use
