Music Equipment Seized

Several large speakers, amplifiers, music decks and CD mixing equipment were among more than 20 items seized from a Folkestone flat after their owner ignored requests to keep the noise down.

Hazeldon music equipment

Shepway District Council received several complaints about late night noise from Roger Hazeldon's home in Julian Road and wrote to him asking him to make sure any noise was kept to a reasonable level.

But the requests were ignored and after council officers witnessed 'excessively loud' music, they served a Noise Abatement Notice requiring him to stop causing a nuisance to his neighbours.

When Mr Hazeldon also ignored this and further warnings, the council obtained a warrant through the courts and confiscated the goods.

People have the right to enjoy their favourite music in their own homes but their neighbours also have the right to some peace. In this case, drum and bass music would typically last for several hours and sometimes continued until 2am.

We tried to work with Mr Hazeldon to resolve the situation but he let us down by not being reasonable. He left us no alternative than to step in and seize the equipment.
