Minutes:

The Chairman gave Members the opportunity to comment on the departure of the Chief Executive, Mr Alistair Stewart.  Various Members took the opportunity to express their thanks to Mr Stewart for his time in the role of Chief Executive at Shepway District Council.

Designation of Head of Paid Service and Appointment of Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer

The Personnel Committee will meet on 27 February 2018 to consider applications for the role of Head of Paid Service and which post should hold the roles of Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer.  Council will be asked to consider the recommendations and if it thinks appropriate to make decisions on those recommendations.

The Personnel Committee met on 27 February 2018 to consider applications for the role of Head of Paid Service and which post should hold the roles of Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer.  Council was asked to consider the recommendations, which had been circulated at the meeting, and, if thought appropriate, to make decisions on those recommendations.

 

Proposed by Councillor Monk,

Seconded by Councillor Mrs Hollingsbee; and

 

RESOLVED:

1.        That report A/17/27 be received and noted.

2.        That Susan Priest, Corporate Director – Strategic Development be designated as Head of Paid Service pursuant to Section 4 Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

3.        That Susan Priest be appointed as:-

 

a.    The Returning Officer pursuant to section 35(1) of the Representation of the People Act 1983 Act;

b.    The Electoral Registration Officer pursuant to section 8(2) (a) of the 1983 Act and;

c.    The Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting parish polls pursuant to Rule 4(1) of the Parish and Community Meetings (Polls) Rules 1987.

 

(Voting figures: 22 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions).
