Performing animals

You need to register any animals you wish to keep or train to show or perform in both the area where you live and the area they perform

Before you start

We've banned the use of performing animals in circuses in the district.

You should do a risk assessment before any performance with animals. Get advice from a vet, a zoo, a university department, or a competent animal handler.

What happens next

We'll get in touch if we need any additional information, otherwise we'll aim to process your application in 5 working days.

Bear in mind that part of processing your application involves consulting with various authorities such as the police, fire department, and environmental health, and in some circumstances they can take up to 28 days to fully review your application and get back to us.

After reviewing the application and receiving positive responses from consultees, we will aim to organise an inspection of the premises in 10 working days.

Premises inspection

An officer from our Environmental Health team will inspect your premises to make sure they meet health and safety and welfare standards.

If your premises pass inspection, you will get a certificate of registration. Registration comes with conditions.

Further inspections

We will continue to inspect your premises while you keep registered animals to make sure you meet the conditions of registration.
