Information and advice on any homelessness enquiries in Shepway

We can provide you with advice and assistance if you find yourself homeless. All Councils have a legal duty to consider any application from an individual who states that they are homeless or likely to be homeless, within 28 days.

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness you can contact us by letter, telephone or in person. You should seek advice as soon as possible. We might be able to help you keep your home.

During periods of extreme cold weather, we can provide emergency accommodation for any person sleeping rough in the district.

What will happen to me?

At the housing offices, your details will be recorded on an enquiry form, which will establish the basic facts of your circumstances. This form enables us to identify the assistance that you require, either to prevent you from becoming homeless or to help you find another home.

We need to find out if you fit certain criteria - actually homeless and in priority need. If this is the case we have a duty to provide you with a temporary home until we have made a decision. We will arrange an appointment for you to be interviewed by a member of the homelessness team.
