Donated memorial benches

Prices and guidance on how to apply for a donated memorial bench

Donating a park bench is one way you can remember a loved one or make a special dedication.

Donated memorial benches can be placed in many council owned parks, open spaces and on highway land (if approved by Kent County Council) within Shepway. You can say where you'd like your bench to be, but the final decision lies with the council.

You can donate a brand new bench or a refurbished bench and plaque for 10 years at a time. If you want the bench and memorial to stay in place for another 10 year term, you'll have to pay a further fee.

The council is responsible for looking after donated benches but won't replace them if damaged beyond repair.

Fees for donated memorial benches

The current fee for a new bench is £1,456.00 (VAT exempt). This fee includes:

  • the bench
  • installation costs
  • a plaque
  • maintenance costs for 10 years

The current fee for a refurbished bench is £854.00 (VAT exempt).

A non-refundable deposit of £150 must be paid when you apply to cover the cost of the plaque. This will be subtracted from the total fee amount.
