Boat and Canoe Licence - Royal Military Canal

RMC2 The Hythe Royal Military Canal, between the Seabrook Outfall and West Hythe Dam, is controlled by Shepway District Council. All vessels must be non-powered. If you wish to bring your rowing boat or canoe and use it on this stretch of the canal, then you will need to obtain a licence from Shepway District Council. The licence will be granted under Section 94, Public Health Acts Amendment Act 1907, for the use of pleasure boats.

It will be necessary for any person using their rowing boat or canoe to obtain Public Liability Insurance in the sum of £2,000,000. This insurance will insure against third party risks and all liability in respect of death or injury to passengers on any one accident and shall indemnify and keep indemnified the Shepway District Council from and against all actions proceedings costs damages expenses claims demands in the consequence of the exercise by the licensee of the licence and permission thereby given or by use of the boat/canoe at any time whilst the boat/canoe is on the canal or the bank or in any consequence of any breach of non-observance of the conditions on the licensee's part.
