sand-yachting-resizedIn 2002 the Municipality of Boulogne-sur-Mer and Shepway District Council set up the Boulogne Shepway Co-operation (BOSCO) Association under French law, with the main aim of promoting and contributing towards the development of projects that involve the co-operation of groups and organisations in Shepway and Boulogne-sur-Mer.

The setting-up of this association followed many years of effective co-operation between the two towns. This co-operation has been essential in fostering a culture of entente cordiale, and a keenness to learn from each other's knowledge and experience. This has resulted in a number of cross-border projects including:

  • Folkestone Boulogne Town Centre Renaissance
  • Primary Schools Partnerships
  • Seasonal Jobs Project
  • Community in Action
  • Sport in Action
  • Sign of the Times
  • Empty Housing Transmanche Partnership

In April 2007 Canterbury City Council joined Shepway District Council and Boulogne-sur-Mer to create a broader partnership - renamed BOSCO+. All partners are working together to establish key cross-border projects that will seek funding from the European Union through its Interreg IV Programme, which is set to start in 2008.

The BOSCO Association is currently part-funded by the European Union’s Interreg IIIa Programme.
