The setting-up of this association followed many years of effective co-operation between the two towns. This co-operation has been essential in fostering a culture of entente cordiale, and a keenness to learn from each other's knowledge and experience. This has resulted in a number of cross-border projects including:
In April 2007 Canterbury City Council joined Shepway District Council and Boulogne-sur-Mer to create a broader partnership - renamed BOSCO+. All partners are working together to establish key cross-border projects that will seek funding from the European Union through its Interreg IV Programme, which is set to start in 2008. The BOSCO Association is currently part-funded by the European Union’s Interreg IIIa Programme.
