Main ContentParking Consultation and StrategyShepway District Council's Cabinet considered the report on 3 September. The Cabinet has decided to introduce the Controlled Parking Zone in Central Folkestone. Details of the timing of its introduction will be available in due course.

"Parking is an issue which affects everyone in our District – motorists, pedestrians, residents, traders and visitors alike. As car ownership grows, parking problems increase, and solutions have to be found. This Parking Strategy aims to identify the principal areas where there are significant parking problems, determine parking review areas which will address those problems, and recommend possible solutions. It does not aim to solve all the parking problems in the District, but rather to enable the Council to adopt a clear and consistent approach to parking throughout Shepway. The solutions to the parking problems identified in the Strategy are the result of consultation with members of Shepway District Council, the town and parish councils, and representatives of the local business community through the Channel Chamber of Commerce. This Parking Strategy was adopted by Shepway District Council at their meeting on 29 November 2006.
Parking Scheme for Folkestone CentralResidents and businesses in central Folkestone have told us about their parking difficulties. In response to these comments we have carried out surveys of the parking occupancy and used the information to draw up designs which, we believe, will help resolve some of the problems. Folkestone Central has been divided into zones, as shown on the map here. A Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is an area where all on-street parking is controlled during certain times of the day.
