Access to Information

At Shepway District Council we recognise that the information we hold is one of our most important assets.  The council aims to give the public access to as much information as possible in order to develop a more open culture.  New legislation has given Shepway District Council the opportunity to review the information it supplies and expand this even further.

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 deals with information other than personal information (which continues to be managed under the rules of the Data Protection Act).

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives individuals certain rights of access to personal information Shepway District Council may hold about them.  This information may be in any format and may be both factual and an opinion about the individual.

Environmental Information Regulations have been put in place to promote public access to official information on the state of the environment.
