FOLKESTONE WEST CONTROLLED PARKING ZONE - PROPOSED EXTENSION

PDF  Print  E-mail

Shepway District Council introduced a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) around Folkestone West station in November 2009 after successful consultation with local residents and businesses.  The scheme has helped considerably to improve road safety by protecting sight lines and property accesses.  In addition, long-term commuter parking has been removed from residential roads within the CPZ.

However, a number of residents outside the CPZ have raised issues about long-term parking over-spilling into their roads. These residents have asked if they can be included in the CPZ. The council's Cabinet has therefore agreed to consult residents on CPZ proposals for these streets.

How to find out more

Letters and questionnaires will be sent to residents in early March .  Completed questionnaires should be returned by Wednesday 31st March 2010.  The final decision rests with elected councillors.

A draft scheme has been designed for the area. If you would like to know more about what is being proposed in your street, please try to visit one of our exhibitions, which will be held as follows:

In the St George's Church Hall, 8 Audley Road, Folkestone, Kent CT 20 3QA on :

Thursday 18th March  1pm-4pm
Saturday 20th March  11am-3pm

There will also be an evening session in the Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent CT20 2QY on Tuesday 23rd March  6pm-8pm.

How it works

A brief summary of how the Folkestone West CPZ operates is provided below:

  • All kerbside space is controlled between 9am and 11am. Yellow lines have been introduced to control junctions (double yellows) and vehicular accesses (single yellows).
  • The holder of a resident or business permit is allowed to park in the designated permit holder bays during the scheme's operational hours. Residents may purchase visitor permits for their visitors. Permit charges are shown in the table below.
  • Only zone B permit holders are entitled to park in any street within the zone. Similarly, permit holders from other zones are not entitled to park in zone B. The zoning helps to manage local demand for parking.
  • The CPZ is intended to protect local residents parking during the scheme operational hours, but does not necessarily guarantee a parking space.
  • Blue badge holders are allowed to park their vehicle without the need for a permit provided that a valid disabled persons' badge is displayed.
