Domestic Abuse

Domestic Abuse Booklet

The South East Domestic Violence Forum and the Community Safety Partnerships of Shepway and Dover have launched the new version of the domestic abuse booklet, Is Your World Shattered by Domestic Abuse. Who Can Help?

The booklet explains what domestic abuse is, what you can do about seeking help, advice and support if you, or someone you know, is experiencing domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse includes any form of physical, sexual or emotional abuse between people in a close relationship.  It can take a number of forms such as physical assault, sexual abuse, rape, threats and intimidation.  Intimidation can be degradation, mental and verbal abuse, humiliation, depravation, systematic criticism and belittling.

The booklet is available at the link below or a copy can be obtained by contacting the Shepway Community Safety Unit on 01303 853600.

If you are suffering from domestic abuse it is important you tell someone:

  • Call 999 if your life is in danger or a crime is being committed.
  • Call Kent Police 01622 690690 if it is not an emergency.  Ask for the domestic abuse officer covering the area where you live.  If the officer isn't available, there is a facility to leave a message for someone to call you back.  Please make sure you leave safe contact details.
  • Contact the National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline 24 hour service which offers advice and support.  Call 0808 2000 247 or visit: www.nationaldomesticviolencehelpline.org.uk
