Main ContentCapital to Coast in Under an Hour
Folkestone's name is in the spotlight at two of the nation's busiest railway stations this month thanks to efforts by Shepway District Council. Four impressive adverts are being displayed at Kings Cross and St Pancras showing images of Folkestone and re-enforcing the message that it's only an hour away from London. Cllr Robert Bliss, Leader of the Council, said: "It is vital that we promote Folkestone, as a destination to visit or live, to commuters in London who might be thinking of a fresh change. We need to show them all the great things that Folkestone has to offer." "They probably don't realise at the moment that they could continue to work in London while living in Folkestone and taking the short commute to the capital each day." The adverts, which show pictures of the coastal park, the Old High Street and Quarterhouse, were designed to outline Folkestone's beauty, style and vibrant nightlife. They will be displayed in both stations for around a month to coincide with the launch of Southeastern's full high speed service. In addition to this, Shepway District Council is also planning an event, to be held in St Pancras Station on the 14 December to further promote Folkestone as a attractive place to live. Council members will be present at a specially designed stand that will promote the cheaper house prices and beautiful surroundings. All this work is a result of the hard work done by the Rail for Folkestone Group which secured the High Speed Link to Folkestone in 2002. Shepway are hoping the images will encourage more visitors to the area.
