Play Areas and Open Spaces in the Romney Marsh

Seabourne Way- Dymchurch

Suitable for children aged 7-12 years olds

This park has swings, a roundabout and a sea saw and is situated in Dymchurch.  As you leave Dymchurch (towards St. Mary's Bay and away from Hythe), turn right at the mini round-a-bout onto Mill Road, then take your first left onto Seabourne Way and the park is on the corner, half way down.

 

Country Fields- Dymchurch

Suitable for children aged 4-12 years

This park is in the middle of Dymchurch, off of the highstreet, and has swings, a toddler rocker, bench seating and a play unit.  Country Fields is the second right past the Garden centre, and there is a School is at the end of Country Fields.

 

Wraightsfield Avenue- Dymchurch

Suitable for 4-12 year olds

Wraightsfield Avenue is at the beginning of Dymchurch (when coming from Hythe) and is the first turning on your left.  There is a cradle swing and a spring rocker for the toddlers, and flat seat swings and a play unit with cargo net and slide for children aged between 7-12.

 

Meads Way- St. Mary's Bay

Suitable for 4-7 year olds

Meads Way has a small play area with toddler swings and a small play unit with a slide.  The parks exact location is off of Taylors Lane (at the end of St. Mary's Bay- towards New Romney and away from Hythe), then once on Taylors Lane, turn onto Grassmere and then directly right onto Meads Way. Public Toilets in High Knock Car Park (1/2 mile away). 

 

Queensway- Lydd

Suitable for children aged between 4-12 years

Queensway Park is located in the middle of Lydd and has a play unit with a slide, bench seating, and a surrounding green area with football goals.  New seat and cradle swings have been installed in February 2008.  The park is situated near the Rype (another large green open space in the centre of Lydd) and is accessible via Skinner Road- from Skinner Road, turn onto Green Way and you will see the play area at the top of the green open space, surrounded by the houses in this Close.

 

The Derings-Lydd

Suitable for children aged 4-10 years

This play park has recently been refurnished with a new flat swing unit.  Equipment also includes a slide, cradle swings, and a see-saw.  There is a spring rocker and a mini play unit for toddlers, along with the cradle swings.  The parks location is off of the Highstreet, down the Vinelands which then leads to the Derings.

 

Oakham Drive-Lydd

Suitable for children of ages 4-10

The park in Oakham Drive is in around the houses on the estate and has swings, a play unit with a slide, and spring rockers.  When approaching Lydd from Dungeness Road, Turn right at the round-about onto Harden Road and then take your first right onto Oakham Drive.

Megan Close- Lydd

Suitable for children of ages 4-7 years

To be installed by early summer 2008, this park will have cradle swings, a spring rocker, and a small play house unit with a slide.  It will be located in Megan Close in Lydd.

 

Lade Fort- Lydd-on-Sea

Suitable for children of ages 5-12 years and teenagers

Lade Fort has a park in Lydd-on-Sea (just outside of Lydd).  The parks equipment ranges from a slide play unit for the youngsters, to a Trim Trail (Gym Trail) and a Basketball Court for Teenagers.  Head towards Greatstone-on-Sea, along Coast Drive (the seafront) and turn left onto Taylor Road (which is the road opposite the Car Park on the seafront- you will see the Fish&Chip shop sign and various others).  Go over the railway on Taylor Road and turn left onto Lade Fort Crescent and the park is right at the end of the crescent down a footpath.

 

Salthouse Close- Brookland

Suitable for 4-7 years

This park is in the quiet village of Brookland, near Brenzett.  There is a play unit with a slide, flat seat swings, and toddler rockers.  The park is located off of the round-about on the A259, onto Rye Road, and then turn onto Salters Close.

 

Moore Close- Brenzett

Suitable for 6-10 year olds

Moore Close is a play area with a play frame suitable for children aged between 6-10 years old.  The parks exact location is off of Kings Street (Kings Street is a turning off of the roundabout on  the B2080).

 

Elm Field- Old Romney

Suitable for 4-10 year olds

This park is in the quiet village of Old Romney and has craddle swings, a sea saw and a play unit with a slide.  Elm Fields is accessible via The Limes which is a turning off of the main road that runs through the village.  The park is just past the pub on The Limes, and behind Jessamine Farm.

 

The Churchlands- New Romney

Suitable for 4-12 year olds

There is a sea-saw, swings and a play unit with a slide at this site, which can be found by taking a left at the traffic lights (onto Station Road) as you enter New Romney from  Dymchurch.  The Churchlands is the first right on Station Road.

Suitable for Toddlers and Teenagers

At this park there is a toddler's area with spring rockers, burma bridge multi-play unit and cradle swings.  Additionally there is a teenage village which is separate, with a see-saw, flat swings, multi play unit, and a Basketball Hoop.  This park is located at the beginning of Station Road, opposite the school.

 

Oak Drive- St. Mary's Bay

Suitable for 4-10 years olds.

This park has cradle swings, seat swings, a multi-play unit with a slide, and a climbing frame.  The parks location is in Oak Drive which is accessible via Jefferstone Road (off of the A259 as you leave St Mary's Bay, towards New Romney).
