Staff from Veolia Environmental Services and Shepway District Council's parks team raised £68 with a pink-themed fancy dress day in aid of ‘wear it pink'.
‘Wear it pink' is the Breast Cancer Campaign's biggest fundraising event and currently supports 112 research projects worth almost £14.5 million in 50 centres of excellence across the UK.
This year the campaign dared everyone in the UK to ‘wear it pink' and Veolia, waste collection contractors for the council, and the council's parks team, who share same offices at Ross Depot in Military Road, stepped up to the challenge. Thirty five members of staff wore pink for the day but Wayne Hillier stood out around town as he emptied wheelie bins in pink lace underwear over his usual work clothes while driver Phil Smith did his rounds wearing interesting pink makeup, pink velour jacket ,with a pink wig and pink painted steel toe capped boots.
Other members of staff sported pink ties, wigs, and hats.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer and one in nine women in the UK will be affected during their lifetime. All the money raised by Veolia around the UK will help the Breast Cancer Campaign continue its research. Breast Cancer Campaign's mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative, world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.
