Pupils given food for thought
Children at 15 primary schools across Shepway will be getting a taste for all things healthy when they take part in a Fun Fit Food project.
The Circus Takeaway Theatre Group will putting on a performance for Year 6 pupils about healthy eating, keeping fit and highlighting the choices they will face when the move on to secondary education. Year 4 pupils will be creating pizza and pasta dishes, making their own ‘hidden vegetable' tomato sauce from a recipe supplied by La Tavernetta Restaurant in Folkestone and with free vegetables from Juicy Fruits of Cheriton.
The project kicks off at St Eanswythe's Primary School in Church Street, Folkestone on Monday (17 November) and will visit one school every day for three weeks, ending at Brenzett Primary School on Romney Marsh on Friday 5 December.
The event is being organised by Shepway District Council and funded by the Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust.
Cllr William Richardson, Cabinet Member for Technical Services and Environmental Health, said the emphasis would be on fun.
"We want to show that eating healthy food and keeping fit needn't be boring. It's especially important for pupils who are moving on to their secondary schools next year to be able to make a healthy choice about the foods on offer."
Parents will be invited to tuck into healthy meals made by the pupils.
