Holiday fun starts at Lydd

     

A free programme of summer fun for youngsters kicks off on Thursday 24 July bringing an exciting range of play events across the district.

Aimed at young people up to 18 years old, the Shepway Mobile Activity Programme (MAP) is one of three projects that secured £236,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Led by a giant inflatable pirate, a team of youth workers will be unpacking a treasure chest of toys, games and activities at 26 venues across the district throughout the school holidays. All children and young people are free to come and go as they wish throughout the sessions and parents are also welcomed

The fun starts at Queensway, Lydd, on Thursday 24 July where Captain Bill Fun and his gang will on hand between 11.00am and 3.00pm to help things go with a swing. The team moves to Meridian Road, Etchinghill, on Friday 25 July and is then at the following venues:

Monday 28 July Brabner Close, Folkestone
Tuesday 29 July Salthouse Close, Brookland
Wednesday 30 July Lower Leas Coastal Park, Folkestone (eastern end)
Thursday 31 July Churchlands, New Romney
Friday 1 August Lower Radnor Park, Folkestone.

The programme continues throughout the summer holiday before the final session at Jubilee Field, Lyminge, on Friday 29 August. Look out for Time to Play leaflet in libraries, One Stop Shops and other venues for a full list.

Cllr Carole Waters, Cabinet Member for Sport and Culture, said the Mobile Activity Programme was one of three projects that had secured Big Lottery Funding.

"The free play sessions will not only run through the summer holiday but also during half term breaks. Look out for Captain Bill the pirate who will be flying high at the places were where the play sessions are being held to welcome young people."

She said the lottery funding would also help two other projects over the next few years.

"Fairplay aims to ensure that disabled and able-bodied children have the chance to integrate through play and the Challenge project is designed to get more children to play outdoors, develop self esteem and provide a chance for more adventurous play."
