Under the Building Act 1984, Building Control must be notified when the demolition of a building is proposed.There are, however, instances where this is not required:

Once we have received your notification, we will issue a Section 81 counter-notice. This will detail all the actions which you or your demolition company are required to undertake before, during and after demolition has taken place. Guidance is also given on noise, asbestos, dust and burning of materials. We will also send notification letters to immediate neighbours along with organisations such as Kent Fire and Rescue, Environment Agency and Southern Water. However it is common courtesy for you to also notify neighbours prior to demolition. You should not commence demolition works prior to informing Building Control and, where neccessary, receiving a Section 81 notice from us.
