Main ContentGarden waste
The garden waste collection service picks up grass cuttings, prunings and other garden waste across the district every fortnight. Residents should place their bin at the boundary of your property by 7.30am on their collection day. The waste is taken to a local farm for composting. A brown-lidded bin is supplied to each household who has chosen to be part of the scheme. Details of the charges for this service are available here. More information available here. Alternatively, you can buy a roll of 10 green garden waste bags for £8.50 from the Civic Centre and One-Stop shops. These bags can be used to put out your garden waste alongside your wheelie bin on your normal rubbish collection day. Due to the full capacity of the district's current composting site, however, this garden waste is sent to landfill. What can I put in my garden waste bin?We can accept: Grass cuttings, weeds, hedge trimmings, prunings, dead flowers and leaves Sorry we cannot accept: Soil, bricks, stones etc, any glass, metal or plastic (including plant pots), food waste including vegetable and fruit peelings, and animal droppings. If unacceptable items are found in your garden waste bin, it will not be emptied. If this occurs regularly, your garden waste bin may be removed. Unacceptable material contaminates the whole load, resulting in the waste being sent to landfill rather than being composted. This comes at a great cost to the council and ultimately council tax payers.
