Main ContentStreet parking - advice, clamping and removal
Drivers should look out for parking restrictions and obey regulations. It is illegal to park on double yellow lines at all times (unless you are a Blue Badge disabled parking permit holder). All other restrictions - and the times they are in force - are marked by signs. A single yellow line means no parking at the times specified on nearby plates. Your parked vehicle must not cause an obstruction to other road users. Keep driveways and pedestrian dropped kerbs clear and do not park on or near junctions. Such obstructions are enforcable by the Police. Do not park on the footway as this causes an obstruction for wheelchair users, pedestrians and people pushing prams or other items. There are some limited waiting bays where parking is restricted. Please note time restrictions on nearby plates. Drivers are not allowed to park in disabled parking bays unless they hold and display a Blue Badge or are transporting a disabled passenger with a Blue Badge. The badge must be correctly displayed at all times. Vehicles displaying a valid badge may park on yellow lines for a maximum of three hours, provided no obstruction is caused and there are no additional loading restrictions. Vehicles found to be illegally parked will be issued with a parking ticket called a penalty charge notice (PCN). The penalty is either £50 or £70 (depending on the contravention) and is reduced by 50% if paid within 14 days. For more information about parking tickets, fines and appeals, click here. Loading restrictionsThere are loading and unloading restrictions in some parts of Folkestone and Hythe town centres where parking or waiting is not permitted by any vehicles (even if you hold a disabled blue badge). Loading restrictions can be identified by yellow markings on the kerb, as well as yellow lines on the highway and signs detailing restriction times. Bus stop clearways and taxi ranksParking and waiting is NEVER permitted on bus stop clearways or taxi ranks. These are clearly marked on the highway and may be used only by buses and taxis respectively. Waiver certificatesWaivers for trade vehicles can be obtained when necessary from the Civic Centre between 8.45am and 4.15pm, Monday to Friday. Evidence of the need for a waiver must be provided before a waiver certificate is issued. The charge is £10 for 7 days. Waivers are granted only if it is necessary to park on a restricted road while work is being carried out inside or outside premises. Clamping and removalShepway District Council has taken a decision not to clamp or remove illegally parked vehicles. Please note, however, the bailiff companies we employ may clamp or remove vehicles to recover unpaid penalty charge notices. Enforcement action may also be taken by the Police if vehicles are parked causing obstruction or hazard to other road users.
