Council tax discounts
Some residents may be eligible for a discount on their council tax. The different discounts, including the single person discount, are listed below.
If you feel these circumstances may apply to you, please complete a council tax discount form and your entitlement to discount will be reviewed. If you have a second home because your work requires you to live elsewhere, you may still receive a 50% discount. Examples are pub landlords who are required to live at the pub, armed services personnel living in Ministry of Defence accommodation or caretakers/wardens required to live at premises where they work.
*Some people may not count towards the number of adults living in a property;
- Full time students, student nurses, apprentices and youth trainees
- Patients resident in hospital and people who are bing looked after in care homes
- People who are severely mentally impaired
- People staying in certain hostels or night shelters
- 18 and 19 year olds who are at or have just left school
- Careworkers working for low pay -usually for charities
- People caring for someone with a disability who is not a spouse, partner or child under 18
- Members of visiting forces and certain international institutions
- Members of religious communities (monks and nuns)
- People in prison (except those in prison for non-payment of Council Tax)
