Main ContentGarden waste collection charges
Shepway District Council has introduced a charge for its fortnightly garden waste collection from the brown-topped wheelie bins. We have done this to ensure we can continue and develop the service, which was originally paid for by a one-off Government grant. When it was introduced only a third of the district had access to the service and it was felt it was fairer to ask those who use the service to make a contribution towards the costs. This charge is from 1 April 2008 and will be payable every year. If you already have a garden waste bin (brown-topped wheelie bin)If you have a garden waste bin and wish to continue to receive the collection service you need to pay £35. In subsequent years you will receive an invoice every year from the Council for the collection service. Residents who have paid for the service will receive a sticker to put on their bins to denote that they are part of the new service. It is important that you put the sticker on your bin promptly. Please note, bins without a sticker, from households who have not paid for the service, will not have their garden waste collected. If any households with one of the brown top bins decide they do want to pay for the service after 1 April 2008 they can contact the council to make arrangements. If you do not have a garden waste binIf you do not currently have a garden waste bin but would like one, you will need to pay £53.40. This includes a one-off hire fee of £18.40 for the bin, and an annual charge of £35 for the collection service. In future years, you will be invoiced annually for the service charge. Once we have received your payment, the bin should be delivered to you within 6-8 weeks with details of the collection days.
