Main ContentGarden waste collectionYou can make a payment now for Garden Waste however you will require your Property Reference Number. If you do not have this handy you can find your property reference number here You can now sign up for the 2010/11 scheme. Please see below for details. Shepway District Council introduced a charge on 1st April 2008, for its fortnightly garden waste collection from the brown-topped wheelie bins. We did this to ensure we can continue and develop the service, which was originally paid for by a one-off Government grant. When it was introduced only a third of the district had access to the service and it was felt it was fairer to ask those who use the service to make a contribution towards the costs. To keep service costs down a one off collection charge is made for the period 1 April to 31 March each year. The current collection charge will need to be made even if you join or leave the scheme part way through the year. If you already have a garden waste bin (brown-topped wheelie bin)If you have a garden waste bin and wish to continue to receive the collection service you need to pay £35. In subsequent years you will receive an invoice every year from the Council for the collection service. Residents who have paid for the service will receive a sticker to put on the bin to denote that they are part of the new service. It is important that you put the sticker on the bin promptly. Please note, bins without a sticker, from households who have not paid for the service, will not have their garden waste collected. If any households with one of the brown top bins decide they do not want to pay for the service after 1 April 2010 they can contact the council to make arrangements for removal of the bin. If you do not have a garden waste binIf you do not currently have a garden waste bin but would like one, you will need to pay £54.00. This includes a one-off hire fee of £19.00 for the bin, and an annual charge of £35 for the collection service. In future years, you will be invoiced annually for the service charge. Once we have received your payment, the bin should be delivered to you within 3-4 weeks. You will receive the sticker in the post.
