The potential developers are undertaking the community engagement activities within the local area and Shepway District Council is assisting with district-wide publicity (including an introductory pdf newspaper advertisement).

TIMETABLE UPDATE: Following recent national changes and Shepway Cabinet Resolution, the council is intending to revise the timetable for delivery of the LDF Core Strategy.  Document Publication will be in summer 2011, allowing the public to make formal representations on the proposed Core Strategy's 'soundness'.

Subject to Examination in Public (anticipated Autumn 2011) and being considered 'sound' by the Planning Inspectorate, the Shepway LDF Core Strategy would be adopted winter 2011/12.  A revision of the formal programme (Local Development Scheme) will take place in due course.

 For further information in relation to the timescale and also:

  • Overall Core Strategy progress and a summary of emerging development path;
  • The process of Sustainability Appraisal and also criteria for deciding which strategic sites are appropriate for inclusion; and
  • Overview update of stakeholder involvement groups

please consult the Cabinet Report approved on 28th July 2010.

Latest news

The council is producing the Core Strategy which will form the central and most important component of the Local Development Framework (LDF).  The LDF is a new kind of plan which outlines how planning will be managed in Shepway.  The purpose of the Core Strategy is to look long-term, rather than at all the details as these will follow in other LDF documents.

Core Strategy - Preferred Options Consultation 2009

Further public consultation on Core Strategy (Preferred Options) ran from 8th June to 24th July 2009.  Information on the consultation response can be seen on the Core Strategy page which also now includes an Officer summary of actions arising to give an indication of the way forward on individual topics.

The Council's most recent expression of how it intends to take forward the LDF Core Strategy was set out in a report approved by Shepway's Cabinet on 4th November 2009 which can be found here.

Cabinet also noted a summary of feedback arising from the Preferred Options consultation earlier in the year.  Click on this link to find news on Core Strategy consultations and the way forward.

Contact a member of the Planning Policy Team for further information.

Evidence Base and Issues and Options:

Preferred Options followed public participation on Issues and Alternative Options early in 2008 and considerable work on the LDF evidence base. Further information on the Issues and Alternative Options consultation can be seen by clicking here.

Most housing and commercial evidence can be seen by clicking here.  Additional information supporting the Core Strategy can be viewed on the consultation portal.
