Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places

The Council adopted a Scheme of Polling Districts and Polling Places on 31 October 2007 following an extensive consultation exercise with stakeholders during 2007.

Copies of representatiions received, together with the record of decisions taken by the Council in connection with the review and the scheme's adoption can be inspected during normal hours at the Council's offices.

This Scheme will be reviewed in no more than four years time.

What is a polling district?

A polling district is a geographical sub-division of an electoral area such as a district council ward.

What is a polling place?

A polling place is a geographical area in which a polling station is located. There is no legal definition of what a polling place is. The polling place can be either designated as tightly as a building in the polling district used for polling or as widely as the entire polling district.

What is a polling station?

A polling station is the area, normally a building, where voting takes place. One or more polling stations may be provided within a polling place.
