Taxis drive home the message
Taxis are driving home the message that there is a lot to see and do in Shepway.
Folders full of information about local artists, events and attractions are being given to drivers to keep in the back of their taxis and private hire cars.
Put together by Shepway District Council, each folder includes flyers, leaflets and pamphlets on a wide range of attractions including the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Port Lympne Wild Animal Park and the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre; events like the Sellindge Steam Special and Charivari Day and the programme for the Leas Cliff Hall.
The folders also aim to highlight the work of local artists and promote forthcoming exhibitions.
The project has the support of local taxi companies and 30 folders have already been distributed.
Cllr Carole Waters, Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration, said the co-operation of local taxi companies had been key to the scheme.
"Our taxi drivers are often the first people to greet visitors when they got off a train or need to get out and about in the district. I am delighted we are working together on this project. It's a great way of spreading the word about everything the district has to offer and I am sure local people using taxis will benefit too.
These packs also contain multi-lingual safety guides for traveling in a taxi.
Anyone who has leaflets or pamphlets that they would like to be considered for inclusion in these packs should call Licensing Officer, Jacqui Port, on 01303 853366.
