The stage is yours
Young budding performers are being invited to take the stage in a special performance at Folkestone's Amphitheatre.
Shepway Council has commissioned Loop Dance Company and PasssionArt to lead the project, On The Horizon, which is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 18. The young people will create a performance of movement and voice linked to the natural surroundings and horizons of the open air theatre in the Lower Leas Coastal Park.
A series of workshops will lead to the performance on Saturday 7 July. The first will be held on 30 June at Dymchurch Village Hall, followed by workshops at the purpose-designed dance and drama studio in the new University Centre Folkestone at the Glassworks in Mill Bay.
Cllr Carole Waters, Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration, said it was a great opportunity for young people. "I am sure we'll discover some real talent coming from all parts of Shepway. We are delighted to be working with such innovative and exciting professional companies."
Sue Blakesley, joint organiser of the project, added, "It's also an excellent chance for students who are thinking about Higher Education to see and enjoy the great new facilities on offer at Folkestone's very own University Centre."
Becky Brown, assistant director of Loop Dance Company, said, "We were really inspired when we saw the Amphitheatre and its surroundings. We can't wait to see how ‘On The Horizon' develops."
Young people wishing to take part in this project should contact Amanda Oates, Arts Development Officer, for an application form.
The closing date for applications is Thursday 14 June.
