Inspections Suspended Overnight
Inspection of homes affected by the earthquake in Folkestone will start again tomorrow morning (Sunday).
Building Control officers from Shepway District Council worked throughout the day to inspect as many properties as possible but had to suspend work when night fell.
So far, more than 300 properties have been reported to the council and the fire service as having suffered some form of damage - ranging from collapsed chimneys to cracks in walls.
The council is advising anyone who is still concerned about damage to leave their home and arrange to stay with friends overnight or go to the Salvation Army Hall in Canterbury Road where there is a rest centre.
It is understood that up to 50 people may be unable to return to their homes tonight. Some will be staying with friends, some are at the rest centre already and others have been offered accommodation by the council at a local Travel Lodge.
Anyone who has not yet reported property damage can contact the council's emergency numbers on 01303 853 566 or 853 567.
Anyone concerned about gas leaks should contact the Transco emergency line on 0800 111999.
