Earth Tremor – Folkestone
Shepway District Council has a team of building control officers patrolling Folkestone. They are responding to reports of structural damage and also carrying out visual checks.
Officers are currently (11.00am) in Blackbull Road, Folkestone, investigating reports of several collapsed chimneys.
A team of structural engineers drawn from other councils across Kent are also on standby to carry out further surveys of damaged buildings and will be working alongside our own officers and the emergency services. There have been no confirmed reports of major structural damage but we will obviously be checking all areas in the hours and days ahead.
If people have any concerns about the structural damage they should first contact the Police or Fire Service.
An emergency rest centre for residents has been opened at The Salvation Army Hall in Canterbury Road, Folkestone.
Power has been restored at the Civic Centre, Folkestone and our staff are available to take emergency calls only on 01303 221888
