Main ContentRoad AdoptionThis guide has been prepared to give some general information on the policy and procedures that are involved in road adoptions. Road adoption means that the Kent County Council (KCC) as the local highway authority takes on the maintenance of a private road so that the general public travelling about can use the road. KCC will only do this when it is sure that the roads are safe, are going to be useful for the public as a highway, and are of the standard that will mean low maintenance costs for the future. To make sure that this happens KCC issues a Kent Design Guide with a Technical Appendix that is readily available to the house builders. The two main types of roads that can be adopted are new estate roads and existing private roads. Created : Tue,01 May 2007 Updated : Mon,03 Mar 2008 |
