11. Protection of Staff and Contractors

We will not tolerate threats or violence by our tenants against members of the council's staff or contractors. We will work with the Police and other agencies to use available legal remedies against any tenant using or threatening violence. Where such behaviour can be proved to the satisfaction of the Court then an injunction and/or possession order will be obtained which could lead to the tenant being evicted, either straight away or if the behaviour reoccurs.

12. Staff Training

We are committed to training our staff and will ensure that all staff dealing with anti-social behaviour are aware of this policy and procedures and their contents. Refresher training and updates will also be provided where legislation changes.

13. Confidentiality and Use of Information

All information obtained by the Council will be treated in confidence and in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and other statutory provisions controlling how information may be used or shared with other agencies.

Information will not be passed to the person(s) named in the information without the agreement of the person(s) that gave the information.

Shepway District Council is a signatory to the Kent and Medway Crime and Disorder Information Exchange Protocol under which agencies may exchange personal information where it will support action that will:

  • Prevent or detect crime
  • Prevent Disorder
  • Protect Public safety
  • Protect the rights and freedoms of others

Any agency giving information should assess whether sharing information is justified by and proportionate to the risks involved to others. Any disclosure of information should be restricted to a minimum and be the least damaging that is required in achieving the objective.

Information given anonymously will be investigated as far as we are able to do so. However, anonymous information is not particularly helpful because we cannot advise the informant of the outcome of our investigations, nor can we check any facts or responses from the perpetrator with them.

14. Complaints

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your case, you can pursue this through the council's complaints procedure. Details of the procedure are available from the Shepway Housing Centre and other Council Offices, or by telephoning Telephone number 01303 851 700.

If you are still dissatisfied you can take your complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman.
