6. Responsible Behaviour and Good Neighbours

Bad neighbours are a big nuisance; they can make everyone's life miserable. But often they don't realise or understand what problems they are causing for the people who have to live near to them. Coast and Countryside Housing Services issues a leaflet 'Neighbours - Everybody needs good neighbours!' to all tenants which give a few tips to help tenants show consideration for their new neighbours.

Avoid activity that might cause a nuisance or annoyance to others including:

  • Do not carry out loud work at night including repairs and DIY
  • Talk to your neighbours if you intend having a party
  • Do not play your TV, radio, hi-fi or musical instruments loudly, especially at night
  • Keep your dogs and other pets under control
  • Be aware of where your children are playing, who is supervising them and what they are doing
  • Talk to your children and visitors to your home if their behaviour is likely to cause a nuisance or harassment to other people
  • Dispose of rubbish and waste in a proper manner
