The council aims to ensure safe and healthy homes for all the residents of Shepway. This is achieved by improving the standard of repair and management of privately owned or rented dwellings and includes:

  • Inspection of properties to ensure their fitness for habitation
  • Investigation of complaints about housing conditions and safety in privately rented accommodation
  • Registration of Houses in Multiple Occupation
  • Financial and other assistance to owners and occupiers of private sector housing
  • Allocation of grants to help in the adaptation of dwellings for people with disabilities
  • Securing the re-use of empty domestic homes.
