The Shepway Tenants and Leaseholders Group (STLG)
Who are the STLG?
The STLG was originally formed in 1992. Every tenant, leaseholder and licensee of Coast and Countryside Housing Services, part of Shepway District Council, and all members of their household are automatically members of the STLG. Membership is free.
The STLG Committee is a group of Council tenants, leaseholders and licensees who are elected by a ballot of all STLG households. Committee members are usually elected for a 3-year term. All STLG members over 18 years of age can nominate themselves as candidates.
The STLG Committee is a non-political group that represents all members of the STLG.
What does the STLG do?
The main aim of the STLG Committee is to improve the Councils homes and estates service standards in partnership with Housing Services. We have regular meetings with the Head of Housing Management and District Secretary for Housing where our views are sought on the wide range of issues concerning the housing service, including budget setting, programmed works, policy matters and recently all of the issues regarding the stock options study.
Committee members receive regular training on a wide range of subjects both locally and on residential courses, including computer skills and assertiveness as well as more in-depth training on specific housing issues
The Committee meets about every 4 weeks, usually with housing staff and regularly with the District Secretary for Housing. Everyone has a right to have their say on the issues that affect their homes and the STLG Committee is there to be their voice.
We have an Annual General Meeting every June and other open meetings throughout the year to which all STLG members and Councillors are invited.
Minutes of STLG Committee meetings and all general meetings are displayed at the District Offices, the New Romney One Stop Shop, Shepway Housing Centre and in the Members Room at the Civic Centre. A timetable for all STLG Committee meetings is also held in these places.
If you would like more information, please leave your name, address and telephone number on the STLG Office answerphone on
01303 250939 and a Committee member will get back to you.
