Hostel accommodation
What is Hostel accommodation?
Shepway Council currently has three hostels, two of which are based in Hythe and one in Folkestone. These consist of bedsits and two bedroom units, all of which have cooking facilities, yet with shared use of bathrooms, toilets and laundry amenities.
There are caretakers at the hostels and they are available at certain hours, to deal with queries regarding your accommodation.
Occupation of the Hostel will be offered to you on a non-secure licence. As well as paying rent on the accommodation, for which you may be claiming Housing Benefit, there are also service charges, which are not covered by Housing Benefit, which must be paid on a weekly basis. These charges cover communal electricity for heating, water, sewerage and the use of the laundry etc.
You will be responsible for the electricity you use within your room(s), and for this purpose, electricity cards are available from Council offices at a cost of £5.00. As these cards are only available from the Council, you should maintain that you have sufficient credit over the weekend when the Council offices are not accessible.
You should pay your service charges and purchase your Electricity cards at the following locations:
Civic Centre,
Castle Hill Avenue
Folkestone, CT20 2QY
01303 850388
One Stop Shop,
158a High Street
Hythe
The following are the Hostels that we use:
Radcliffe Court:
Radcliffe Court is a hostel run by the council. It contains seven two-bed units and ten bedsits. Each unit has a small kitchen, but with shared use of the bathrooms, showers, toilets and laundry facilities. There is a large communal area at the back of the property where children can play.
West Parade:
West Parade is another hostel run by the council. It contains four units each with two rooms, with a bathroom and toilet on each level. There is a shared laundry facility in the basement. There is no external area at this property, however it overlooks the beach and Hythe promenade.
Cheriton Road:
Cheriton Road is the only hostel that is based in Folkestone. It contains 9 units each with cooking facilities and shared use of bathrooms and laundry room. There is a small garden and play area for children.
