Main ContentOffers of AccommodationThe Council and all the Registered Social Landlords (formerly Housing Association)s listed above have standards that must be met before any offer of accommodation can be made. This section gives further information about these standards. Council housingWaiting list applicantsYou must have lived in Shepway for at least three years and have been on the list for at least 12 months before an offer can be made to you. Where applicants have the same number of points, the number of years that each applicant has lived in Shepway will be taken into account. Homeless applicantsIf you are homeless, and we have made a decision that you are homeless through no fault of your own, and that you are in priority need, we will give you five extra points for each month you are on the waiting list. Our homeless team will tell us if, and from which date, we can give these points. Tied tenantsIf you have been in your job for at least five years and are going to lose your home because you retire, or for another reason like being made redundant, you can be re-housed outside the normal waiting period. You must have lived in Shepway for some time before you took the job. Owner occupiersIf you are over 60 or have some disability or special need and cannot afford to buy another home because you will not get enough money from the sale of your house to buy a suitable home. We include any other equity, savings and income with the proceeds from the sale of your home. Members of HM ForcesIf you have served at least five years as a member of HM Forces and you or your partner previously lived in the Shepway area for at least five years; or your parents or your partner's parents live in the Shepway area. You must make your own arrangements for accommodation between the date you are discharged and the date that the Council is able to make you an offer. Registered Social Landlords (formerly Housing Association)sUnless otherwise stated, you do not need a local connection or to be on the waiting list for twelve months to be offered accommodation by the Registered Social Landlords (formerly Housing Association)s listed above. But Registered Social Landlords (formerly Housing Association)s may have other standards that apply before accommodation can be offered. You can find a list showing the different standards below. Like Council accommodation, Registered Social Landlords (formerly Housing Association) accommodation is in great demand in Shepway so the points you are given for your application will set the length of time you may have to wait for an offer.
