If you are in a position where your would like to buy your own home but cannot afford the current prices, you may be eligible for a cash grant to help you get on to the home ownership ladder. There are a range of options under the Government's Homebuy scheme to assist council and housing association tenants, keyworkers and applicants on the council's Shepway Housing List.

The government appointed Moat, a Kent based housing association, as the Homebuy agent in Kent. Moat administer funding for Homebuy which is  the term now used to describe low cost home ownership. The council works in partnership with Moat to make sure people living in Shepway have access to the Homebuy scheme. The scheme comprises:

  • New Build HomeBuy - enables you to buy a share in a newly built property (shares range from 25% to 75%)
  • Open Market HomeBuy - enables you to buy a propety on the open market with the help of an equity loan.
  • Discounted rent - new homes available for keyworkers at a discounted rent, normally 80% of ordinary market rents for similar homes in the surrounding area.
  • Resales - where existing shared owners wish to sell their properties, they are marketed and sold to people who have applied to Moat.
  • Homes for 100% sale at market prices to suit first time buyers and others.
