Contaminated Land
Under the contaminated Land (England) Regulations 2000 which came into force on the 1st April 2000, the Council has a duty to inspect land in its district for the purpose of identifying contaminated land.
The Environmental Health team at Shepway District Council has produced a strategy which outlines how the it is going to identify any contaminated land across the district. Sites that are potentially contaminated are currently being prioritised before further investigation of the land is undertaken in 2007.
The Environmental Health team also provides guidance regarding the submission of planning applications concerning land that is or is potentially contaminated owing to its previous use.
