Capel-le-Ferne lies close to the cliff edge at the east of the unit. The cliff-top railway has long been subject to disastrous slippages. The Cliffs are of geological and botanical importance.
The shoreline is protected by groynes and the main slippage zone is protected by sea walls These defences will be maintained. However, if the railway line closes it would create an opportunity for realigning the shoreline.
