Consultation

Consultation 2009/10

Consultation plays an important role in capturing the views and engaging our community, our partners and relevant stakeholders.  It is important to us that our services meet the needs of our customers and that we have identified effectively what the needs of our customers are.  The Place Survey 2008 highlighted that our community would like to be more involved in the decisions made by the Council.

The Government also sees involvement playing an essential role in serving our customers and the community.  The ‘Duty to Involve' was introduced in the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 and it came into effect from 1st April.  The duty requires authorities to take appropriate steps to involve representatives for our community in making decisions on service provision and how our services are delivered.  In July 2008, the Government issued its white paper ‘Communities in Control: real people, real power'.  This builds on the ‘Duty to Involve', and highlighted a duty to promote democracy, participatory budgeting and community led planning.  It is a driving power for local communities, with an emphasis on involving local citizens in the decision making process.

The Consultation Plan

The consultation plan is a snap shot of all the consultation and involvement work going on across the authority during 2009/10.  It details activities which aim to inform, consult and involve the community, members, relevant partners and stakeholders and our staff.
