Kent Homechoice

From early February 2009, Shepway Council will be changing the way it lets its homes. We have joined with other local councils to form Kent Homechoice.

Kent Homechoice gives people more say about where they live. It introduces a new way of letting council and housing association homes across the district.  Rather than the council allocating properties, the scheme enables tenants and housing applicants to express an interest in (‘bid’ for) the properties they wish to be considered for.

 

How do I join Kent Homechoice?

To become a member of Kent Homechoice, you will first need to join the Shepway Housing List by completing and returning to us the following housing application form:

Once we have received your completed housing application form and checked the details on it, you will receive your copy of the Kent Homechoice User Guide and a welcome pack. You will then be able to start bidding for the properties that you are interested in and that meet your housing needs.

Housing and Homelessness strategies

The council has worked with Canterbury, Dover and Thanet councils to produce a sub-regional strategy to address homelessness and related issues across the area. It has been developed in consultation with local partners, stakeholders and service users.

Homelessness Strategy - 2008-2013 

The council has also developed a long-term plan for housing of all tenures across the district. The strategy has been produced in collaboration with a wide range of partners, agencies and organisations as well as the residents of Shepway.
